Muscat, Oct 17 - A video of a “bright flying object” in sky went viral on social media on Monday, which many assumed as meteor showers. It was seen over Oman and UAE skies.

In a tweet on its official account, Arabic Nasa said the “lights seen in the sky are not meteor shower, but small chunks of a Russian spacecraft”.

The spacecraft disintegrated in the upper atmosphere, broke into smaller chunks and burned like fireworks.

The “bright object” was the falling space debris from a rocket used for supplying water, food and scientific equipment to the International Space Station.

Sources said “even astronomers were shocked to see the explosion”.
